Never before had I never seen the word euphonious until I read it in Rob Brezsny’s Pronoia is the Antidote for Paranoia. It is pronounced [ yoo fṓnee əss ]. I looked it up in the dictionary and discovered it meant pretty sounds. "Pretty sounds" rang over my head like the words of a cartoon, floating in a bubble above. I liked this newly learned word and it inspired me to write the following:
What are the pretty sounds that I encounter?
-My nieces and nephews climbing all over me; regaling me with their queries.
-A bird chirping its tunes to my delight.
-The humor of local morning radio hosts Fernando (or should I say Ferrrrr-nan-doh, don’t forget the rolling R’s) and Greg the Gay Sportscaster and my laughter that ensues.
-Bells, bells, bells…The wonderful healing energy that comes from church bells, clock tower bells, bells rung by my various yoga instructors. I love them all!
-The sounds of passion between 2 people that care about each other.
-A child’s laugh.
-Any music my friend DK comes up with: Jazz, Latin, Music from the 40’s, techno…the man has great taste!
-The daylight sound of busy-ness in the streets of San Francisco.
-The night-time sound of quiet in San Francisco.
-The wind rushing through the leaves of a tree.
-The sounds of water: raindrops dropping onto the sidewalk; fountains recycling its water; waterfalls splashing into larger bodies of water.
-Christmas music during the month of December.
-Hearing the words of wisdom being passed onto me from my yoga instructors.
-The voices of Maya Angelou, James Earl Jones and Dr. Wayne Dyer captivate me to listen to their every word.

-The singing voices of Luciano Pavarotti, Barbara Streisand and Christina Aguillera.
-The various sounds street performers make.
-The early morning sound of pre-dawn quietness mixed with the intermittent moans from the foghorn 40 odd blocks away.
These are a few of the sounds I find pretty. What does euphonious mean to you?
Thank you Rob Brezsny for your inspiration!
