You Can Meditate Too!

I can’t stress enough how important a healthy meditation practice is. It not only gives you the deep sense of relaxation that everyone needs; it also helps to enhance your connection with the Universe. In other words, it helps your psychic senses contact the Divine. You certainly may receive information from the Universe while in a meditative state, but as an added bonus you will become more aware of your intuition throughout the day when you are not meditating. You may also begin to get what I call DOWNLOADS. I can ‘see’ in my mind’s eye guides putting something in my mind. I may not understand what they are trying to tell me in that moment, but I know the downloading is taking place and it will come to me at some future point; perhaps in a dream, or via a person or any number of ways.

I have heard over and over again from people that they cannot meditate. The truth is that EVERYONE can meditate. It simply takes practice. Were you good at football, driving or even walking the first time you tried it? Of course not!

The biggest lesson I can teach about meditation is to give yourself a break. Don’t judge yourself. You are not the only person on the planet that has a chattering mind. We all do! When my mind begins to wander I simply thank the unwanted thought for coming and ask it to leave. I then tell it rather matter-of-factly that I am going back to my original point of focus. I don’t judge myself for the intruding thought. Life has interruptions. An unwanted thought is simply one of them. I deal with it and move on.

There are many ways to meditate and I will only mention a few here:

 Guided Meditation – This is the easiest way to start. By a CD that has soft music and a narrator with a soothing voice who can guide you through your mediation.

 Focused Meditation – A version of this type of meditation is to focus on a word or phrase that you repeat continuously. It might be ‘LOVE’, for example and you simply repeat it in your mind.

 Visualization – Visualize a serene space that is sacred to you. It can be real or imaginary. Just look at the image in your mind.

 Zen Method - You can also keep your eyes open and look at a candle or some other object.

 Chakra Meditation – Focus on one or all the chakras. See them in your mind with their respective colors. Drain them of the “old stuff”. Sweep each chakra with an imaginary broom. Fill the chakra back up with their respective color. Make the color bright and perhaps with a white light that surrounds it with gold specks.

 Walking Meditation – Who said you have to do a seated meditation? Why not walk a labyrinth or take a journey in a park. Notice a flower, or a bird. Utilize all your senses. Touch the bark of a tree. How does it feel? Smell the jasmine bursting out its beautiful scent. How does it smell? Listen to the birds chirping their tunes above. What are the sensations in your body? Do you notice any taste in your mouth? Don't analyze what you sense. Just notice. You may discover as you connect with nature a feeling of deep peace and utter joy fill your body.

Do some investigating on your own and find out what works best for you. I always say there are seven billion different people in the world and seven billion different ways to meditate to go along with each of them; and they are all correct. Be creative. It’s your meditation after all.

Thank you for reading and Namaste (The Light in me recognizes the Light in you!)
