Peacock has been making itself known to me in the last several weeks. The
magnificence of the Peacock astounds me with its royal blues and greens which
symbolize not only a sense of royalty, but also the heart and throat
chakras. The
heart chakra is in charge of our Love aspect and the throat dictates our self-expression and sense of truth. Therefore, the two colors together can mean communicating clearly through Love, which seems to be a perfect way to live. It is clear that when a peacock spans his feathers he is showing off his “true colors” and we all have an opportunity to do the same, as well.

According to Greek Mythology, Hera, the queen of
the gods and Zeus’ wife, had a faithful servant named Argus. He was a giant who
had 100 eyes. When he was killed, Hera placed his “eyes” on her favorite bird,
the Peacock. Hence, the reason for the beautiful “eyes” on each of the
feathers. These eyes are a metaphor for our own third eye and therefore our
intuition and Inner Wisdom. It is not necessary to look outside of ourselves to find the answers. Everything is already within us.
While peacocks do fly for short distances, especially in order to avert
their adversaries, they prefer to hang out on the ground. This connection with
Mother Earth is important for us human beings too. While we are Spirit, we
are also temporarily part of this corporeal existence. Bringing balance to
Spirit and to our physicality is part of our learning process.
Additionally, this majestic bird has a raucous call that is analogous to a laugh. This
can remind us to simply laugh. We often take life so seriously, thinking that
laughter is for children. When we invite our own inner child to come out with
all its silly glory, we learn that life is actually pretty fun.
According to Ted Andrews, Peacock and the Rising Phoenix’s energy of
rebirthing go hand in hand with one another—and this is why I concluded to write
about Peacock’s medicine today.
Last night, only a few hours before the winter solstice, I decided it was high time that I actually Shamanically journeyed to Peacock to find out its message for me personally. He showed me many
things, including everything mentioned above, but then he showed me something
that related to all of us. We first started out meanering through the snow, but in the end he directed me to gaze upon his nest. As one might expect, there was an egg inside the nest.
However, this egg was not your typical bird's egg. Instead, it actually was the Earth in the shape of an egg. It didn’t take
me long to realize that this meant that not only am I moving through my own
rebirthing process, but the entire planet is, as well—which I thought was a
perfect message for today, December 21st, 2012.
As we move though our transition, I hope that we consider that like the
Peacock, we are Divinely beautiful Beings, able to create love by speaking our
Highest Truths...and so it is!
Thank you for reading and Namaste! (The Light in me recognizes the Light in
you!)
